અથ અષ્ટપંચાશસ્સર્ગઃ||

શ્લો|| તતઃ તસ્ય ગિરેઃ શૃઙ્ગે મહેન્દ્રસ્ય મહાબલાઃ|
હનુમત્પ્રમુખાઃ પ્રીતિં હરયો જગ્મુરુત્તમામ્||1||

સ|| તતઃ મહાબલાઃ હનુમત્પ્રમુખાઃ હરયઃ તસ્ય મહેન્દ્રસ્ય ગિરેઃ શૃઙ્ગે ઉત્તમમ્ પ્રીતિં જગ્મુઃ||

Then the mighty Hanuman and other Vanara leaders who assembled on the peaks of Mahendra mountain felt very happy.

શ્લો|| તં તતઃ પ્રીતિસંહૃષ્ટઃ પ્રીતિમન્તં મહાકપિમ્|
જામ્બવાન્કાર્યવૃત્તાન્તં અપૃચ્છદનિલાત્મજમ્||2||

સ|| તતઃ પ્રીતિસંહૃષ્ટઃ જાંબવાન્ તં પ્રીતિમન્તં મહાકપિં અનિલાત્મજં કાર્યવૃત્તંતં અપૃછ્છત્||

Then the delighted Hanuman was asked very affectionately by Jambavan about all that happened.

શ્લો|| કથં દૃષ્ટા ત્વયા દેવી કથં વા તત્ર વર્તતે|
તસ્યાં વા સ કથં વૃત્તઃ ક્રૂરકર્મા દશાનનઃ||3||
તત્ત્વતઃ સર્વમેતન્ નઃ પ્રબ્રૂહિ ત્વં મહાકપે|
શ્રુતાર્થાઃ ચિન્તયિષ્યામો ભૂયઃ કાર્યવિનિશ્ચયમ્||4||
યશ્ચાર્થઃ તત્ર વક્તવ્યો ગતૈરસ્માભિરાત્મવાન્|
રક્ષિતં ચ યત્ તત્ર તદ્ભાવાન્વ્યાકરોતુ નઃ||5||

સ|| ત્વયા દેવી કથં દૃષ્ટા | વા તત્ર કથં વર્તતે | ક્રૂરકર્મા સઃ દશાનનઃ તસ્યાં કથં વૃત્તઃ || મહાકપે એતન્ સર્વં ત્વં નઃ તત્ત્વતઃ પ્રબ્રૂહિ | શ્રુતાર્થાઃ ભૂયઃ વિનિશ્ચયં કાર્યં ચિન્તયિષ્યામઃ || ગતૈઃ અસ્માભિઃ તત્ર યઃ વક્તવ્યઃ યત્ તત્ર રક્ષિતવ્યં ચ આત્મવાન્ ભવાન્ નઃ વ્યાકરોતુ||

"How did you see the divine lady. How is she. How is the evil minded Ravana treating her. Oh Great Vanara ! Tell us truly everything. Having heard, then we can think of the next course of action . When we go, we can decide what is worth saying. What is to be protected. Tell us in detail .You are wise".

શ્લો|| સ નિયુક્તઃ તતઃ તેન સંપ્રહૃષ્ટતનૂરુહઃ|
પ્રણમ્ય શિરસા દેવ્યૈ સીતાયૈ પ્રત્યભાષત||6||

સ|| તતઃ તેન નિયુક્તઃ સંપ્રહૃષ્ટતનૂરુહઃ સઃ દેવ્યૈ સીતાયૈ શિરસા પ્રણમ્ય પ્રત્યભાષત||

Thus having been asked, delighted about speaking on all of that , he ( Hanuman) bent his head in obeisance to the divine lady and replied.

શ્લો|| પ્રત્યક્ષમેવ ભવતાં મહેન્દ્રાઽગ્રાત્ ખમાપ્લુતઃ|
ઉદધેર્દક્ષિણં પારં કાંક્ષમાણઃ સમાહિતઃ||7||
ગચ્છતશ્ચ હિ મેઘોરં વિઘ્નરૂપમિવાભવત્|
કાંચનં શિખરં દિવ્યં પશ્યામિ સુમનોહરમ્||8||
સ્થિતં પન્થાનમાવૃત્ય મેને વિઘ્નં ચ તં નગમ્|
ઉપસંગમ્ય તં દિવ્યં કાંચનં નગસત્તમમ્||9||

સ|| ઉદધેઃ દક્ષિણં પારં કાંક્ષમાણઃ સમાહિતઃ મહેન્દ્ર અગ્રાત્ ખં આપ્લુતઃ ભવતાં પ્રત્યક્ષમેવ|| ગચ્છતઃ મે ઘોરં વિઘ્ન રૂપં ઇવા અભવત્ | મે દિવ્યં સુમનોહરં કાંચનં શિખરં પશ્યામિ || પન્થાનં આવૃત્ય સ્થિતં તં નગં વિઘ્નમ્ મેને | દિવ્યં કાંચનં તં નગસત્તમમ્ ઉપસંગસ્ય અયં મયા ભેતવ્યઃ ઇતિ મે મનસા બુદ્ધિઃ કૃતા||

' Intent on reaching the Southern shores, I rose up from the top of Mahendra mountain where you were all present. While going I felt a terrific form of obstruction that presented itself. I saw a very beautiful wonderful golden peak . Standing in the path of travel I thought it is an obstruction. I thought in my mind that the wonderful golden peak shall be broken'.

શ્લો|| કૃતા મે મનસા બુદ્ધિર્ભેતવ્યોઽયં મયેતિ ચ|
પ્રહતં ચ મયા તસ્ય લાંગૂલેન મહાગિરેઃ||10||
શિખરં સૂર્ય સંકાશં વ્યશીર્યત સહસ્રથા|
વ્યવસાયં ચ તં બુદ્ધ્વા સ હોવાચ મહાગિરિઃ||11||
પુત્રેતિ મધુરાં વાણીં મનઃ પહ્લાદયન્નિવ|

સ||મયા લાંગૂલેન પ્રહતં તસ્ય મહાગિરેઃ સૂર્યસંકાશં શિખરં સહસ્રથા વ્યશીર્યત||સઃ મહાગિરિઃ તં વ્યવસાયં બુદ્ધ્વા મનઃ પ્રહ્લાદયન્નિવ પુત્ર ઇતિ મધુરં વાણીં ઉવાચ હ||

'I hit the great mountain with my tail. The peak of that great mountain radiating like Sun broke into thousand pieces. That great mountain, realizing that he is going to be smashed, spoke in affectionate tones addressing me as Son'.

શ્લો|| પિતૃવ્યં ચાપિ માં વિદ્ધિ સખાયં માતરિશ્વનઃ||12||
મૈનાકમિતિ વિખ્યાતં નિવસન્તં મહાદધૌ|
પક્ષવન્તઃ પુરા પુત્ત્ર બભૂવુઃ પર્વતોત્તમાઃ||13||
છન્દતઃ પૃથિવીં ચેરુર્બાધમાનાઃ સમન્તતઃ|

સ|| મહદધૌ નિવસન્તં મૈનાકમિતિ વિખ્યાતં માતરશ્વિનઃ સખાયં| મામ્ પિતૃવ્યં ચાપિ વિદ્ધિ||પુત્ત્ર પુરા પર્વતોત્તમાઃ પક્ષવન્તઃ બભૂવુઃ બાધમાનાઃ છન્દતઃ સમન્તતઃ પૃથિવીં ચેરુઃ||

" Known as Mainaka, I am a friend of the god of wind living in the ocean. Know me as your father's brother. Son ! Earlier the best of mountains had wings tormenting the earth by the moving all over at will ".

શ્લો|| શ્રુત્વા નગાનાં ચરિતં મહેન્દ્રઃ પાકશાસનઃ||14||
ચિચ્છેદ ભગવાન્ પક્ષાન્ વજ્રેણૈષાં સહશ્રસઃ|
અહં તુ મોક્ષિતઃ તસ્માત્ તવપિત્ત્રા મહાત્મના||15||
મારુતેન તદાવત્સ પ્રક્ષિપ્તોઽસ્મિ મહાર્ણવે|
રામસ્ય ચ મયા સાહ્યે વર્તિતવ્ય મરિન્દમ||16||
રામો ધર્મભૃતાં શ્રેષ્ટો મહેન્દ્રસમવિક્રમઃ|

સ|| નગાનાં ચરિતં શ્રુત્વા પાકશાસનઃ મહેન્દ્રઃ વજ્રેણ એષાં સહસ્રસઃ પક્ષાન્ ચિચ્છેદ||અહં મહાત્મના તવ પિત્ત્રા મારુતેન તસ્માત્ મોક્ષિતઃ | વત્સ તદા મહાર્ણવે પ્રક્ષિપ્તઃ અસ્મિ||અરિન્દમ મયા રામસ્ય ચ સાહ્યે વર્તિતવ્યં| રામઃ ધર્મભૃતાં શ્રેષ્ઠઃ મહેન્દ્ર સમવિક્રમઃ||

" Hearing about the moving mountains, Mahendra cut thousands of wings with his Vajra. I have been protected by a great soul, your father Maruti. Son from that time I am hidden in the great sea. Oh Subduer of enemies ! Having been helped I have to make efforts to help Rama. Rama is the best among all the followers of Dharma. He is equal in valor to Mahendra".

શ્લો|| એત ચ્છ્રુત્વા વચસ્તસ્ય મૈનાકસ્ય મહાત્મનઃ||17||
કાર્યમાવેદ્ય તુ ગિરે રુદ્યતં ચ મનો મમ|
તેન ચાઽહ મનુજ્ઞાતોમૈનાકેન મહત્મના ||18||
સ ચાપ્યસ્તર્હિતઃ શૈલો માનુષેણ વપુષ્મતા|
શરીરેણ મહાશૈલઃ શૈલેન ચ મહાદધૌ||19||

સ|| મહાત્મનઃ મૈનાકસ્ય તસ્ય એતત્ વચઃ શ્રુત્વા કાર્ય ગિરેઃ આવેદ્ય મનઃ ઉદ્યતં અહં તેન મહાત્મના મૈનાકેન અનુજ્ઞાતઃ ચ|| સઃ શૈલઃ માનુષેણ વપુષ્મતા અન્તર્હિતઃ મહાશૈલઃ શૈલેન શરીરેણ ચ મહોદધૌ અન્તર્હિતઃ||

' Hearing those words of great Mainaka, I told him my intention to go on. I have been allowed by the great Mainaka too. That mountain in the form of a human being hidden remained hidden in the ocean'..

શ્લો|| ઉત્તમં જવમાસ્થાય શેષં પન્થાન મવસ્થિતઃ|
તતોઽહં સુચિરં કાલં વેગેનાભ્યગમં પથિ||20||
તતઃ પશ્યામ્યહં દેવીં સુરસાં નાગમાતરં|
સમુદ્ર મધ્યે સા દેવીવચનમ્ માં અભાષત||21||

સ|| તતઃ અહં ઉત્તમં જવં આસ્થાય શેષં પન્થાનં આસ્થિતઃ સુચિરં કાલં વેગેન અભ્યાગમમ્||તતઃ અહં સમુદ્ર મધ્યે દેવીં સુરસાં નાગમાતરં પશ્યામિ | માં સા દેવી વચનં અભાષત||

' Then reaching great speed I continued on the remaining path for a long time. Then in the middle of the sea I saw the divine mother of serpents, Surasa. That divine lady spoke to me'.

શ્લો|| મમભક્ષઃ પ્રદિષ્ટત્વં અમરૈઃ હરિસત્તમ|
અતસ્ત્વાં ભક્ષયિષ્યામિ વિહિતસ્ત્વં ચિરસ્ય મે||22||
એવમુક્તઃ સુરસયા પ્રાંજલિઃ પ્રણતઃ સ્થિતઃ|
વિષણ્ણવદનો ભુત્વા વાક્યં ચેદમુદીરયમ્||23||

સ|| હરિસત્તમ અમરૈઃ ત્વં મમભક્ષઃ પ્રદિષ્ટઃ | અતઃ ત્વાં ભક્ષયિષ્યામિ| ત્વં મે ચિરસ્ય વિહિતઃ || સુરસયા એવં ઉક્તઃ પ્રાંજલિઃ પ્રણતઃ સ્થિતઃ| વિવર્ણવદનઃ ભૂત્વા ઇદં વાક્યં ચ ઉદીરયમ્||

" Oh best of Vanaras ! You have been destined to be my food by the immortals. So I am devouring you. I have found you after a long time". Saying so Surasa stood with folded hands. With a face that turned pale the following words were uttered ( by me)'.

શ્લો|| રામો દાશરથિઃ શ્રીમાન્ પ્રવિષ્ટોદણ્ડકાવનમ્|
લક્ષ્મણેન સહભ્રાત્રા સીતાયા ચ પરન્તપઃ||24||
તસ્ય સીતા હૃતા ભાર્યા રાવણેન દુરાત્મના|
તસ્યાસ્સકાશં દૂતોઽહં ગમિષ્યે રામશાસનાત્ ||25||

સ|| પરન્તપઃ રામઃ દાશરથિઃ શ્રીમાન્ સીતાયાઃ લક્ષ્મણેન સહ પ્રવિષ્ટઃ દણ્ડકાવનં || તસ્ય ભાર્યા સીતા રાવણેન દુરાત્મના હૃતા | અહં તસ્યાઃ દૂતઃ | રામશાસનાત્ સકાશં ગમિષ્યે ||

"The scorcher of enemies Rama, the son of Dasaratha, along with Sita and Lakshmana entered the Dandaka forest. His wife Sita was abducted by the evil minded Ravana. I am his messenger. By the orders of Rama I am going to meet her".

શ્લો|| કર્તુમર્હસિ રામસ્ય સાહાય્યં વિષયે સતી|
અથવા મૈથિલીં દૃષ્ટ્વા રામં ચ ક્લિષ્ટકારિણમ્||26||
આગમિષ્યામિ તે વક્ત્રં સત્યં પ્રતિશૃણોમિ તે|

સ|| સતી રામં અક્લિષ્ઠકારિણં વિષયે સાહાય્યં કર્તું અર્હસિ |અથવા રામસ્ય મૈથિલીં દૃષ્ટ્વા તે વક્ત્રં આગમિષ્યામિ | તે સત્યં પ્રતિશ્રુણોમિ|

"Oh Lady ! You ought to help Rama who can overcome all difficulties. Else after seeing Maithili I will come back to your mouth. I am telling you the truth'.

શ્લો|| એવમુક્તા મયા સાતુ સુરસા કામરૂપિણી||27||
અબ્રવીન્નાતિવર્તેત કશ્ચિદેષ વરો મમ|
એવમુક્ત્વા સુરસયા દશયોજનમાયતઃ||28||
તતોર્થગુણવિસ્તારો બભૂવાહં ક્ષણેન તુ|

સ|| મયા એવં ઉક્તા સા સુરસા કામરૂપિણિ અબ્રવીત્ | કશ્ચિત્ ન અતિવર્તેત એષઃ વરઃ મમ|સુરસયા એવં ઉક્તઃ અહં તતઃ દશયોજનમ્ આયતઃ અર્થગુણવિસ્તારઃ ક્ષનેન બભૂવ||

Having been told thus, Surasa who can assume any form at will said, "This is my boon . It cannot be escaped". Thus having been told by Surasa I grew ten Yojanas long and half as wide in a moment.

શ્લો|| મત્પ્રમાણાનુરૂપં ચ વ્યાદિતં ચ મુખં તયા||29||
તદ્દૃષ્ટ્વા વ્યાદિતં ચાસ્યં હ્રસ્વં હ્યકરવં વપુઃ|
તસ્મિન્મુહૂર્તે ચ પુનઃ બભૂવાંગુષ્ઠમાત્રકઃ||30||
અભિપત્યાશુ તદ્વક્ત્રં નિર્ગતોઽહં તતઃ ક્ષણાત્|
અબ્રવીત્સુરસા દેવી સ્વેન રૂપેણ માં પુનઃ||31||

સ|| તયા મુખં મત્પ્રમાણાનુરૂપં વ્યાદિતં| વ્યાદિતં તત્ આસ્યં દૃષ્ટ્વા વપુઃ હ્રસ્વં આકારવમ્ તસ્મિન્ મુહૂર્તે પુનઃ બભૂવ||તત્ અહંઅંગુષ્ટમાત્રકઃ આસુ તત્ વક્ત્રં અભિપત્ય ક્ષણાત્ નિર્ગતઃ| દેવી સુરસયા સ્વેન રૂપેણ પુનઃ માં અબ્રવીત્ ||

'She opened her mouth in proportion to my size. When she opened her mouth. seeing her mouth , in a moment I made my form of the size of thumb to move in. Then entering her mouth I exited in a moment. The divine lady Surasa assuming her own form then spoke to me'.

શ્લો|| અર્થ્યસિદ્ધૈ હરિશ્રેષ્ઠ ગચ્છ સૌમ્ય યથાસુખમ્|
સમાનયચ વૈદેહીં રાઘવેણ મહાત્મના||32||
સુખીભવમહાબાહો પ્રીતાઽસ્મિ તવ વાનર|
તતોઽહં સાધુ સાધ્વિતિ સર્વભૂતૈઃ પ્રશંસિતઃ||33||
તતોન્તઽરિક્ષં વિપુલં પ્લુતોઽહં ગરુડો યથા|

સ|| સૌમ્ય હરિશ્રેષ્ઠ અર્થ્યસિદ્ધ્યૈ યથા સુખં ગચ્ચ| વૈદેહીં મહાત્મના રાઘવેણ સમાનય| મહાબલો વાનર સુખી ભવ | તવ પ્રીતા અસ્મિ||તતઃ અહં સાધુ સાધુ ઇતિ સર્વભૂતૈઃ પ્રશંશિતઃ| તતઃ અહં ગરુડો યથા વિપુલં અન્તરિક્ષં પ્લુતઃ||

"Oh Noble one ! Go happily and achieve your task. Unite Vaidehi with the great Rama. Mighty Vanara be happy. I am delighted". Then I was praised by all creatures saying 'good', 'good'. Then I flew across the vast skies like the Garuda'.

શ્લો|| ચાયામે નિગૃહીતા ચ ન ચ પશ્યામિ કિંચન||34||
સોઽહં વિગતવેગસ્તુ દિશોદશ વિલોકયન્|
ન કિંચિત્ તત્ર પશ્યામિ યેન મેઽપહૃતા ગતિ||35||
તતો મે બુદ્ધિરુત્પન્ના કિન્નામ ગગને મમ|
ઈદૃશો વિઘ્ન ઉત્પન્નો રૂપં યત્ર ન દૃશ્યતે||36||
અધો ભાગેન મે દૃષ્ટિઃ શોચતા પાતિતા મયા|
તતોઽદ્રાક્ષ મહં ભીમાં રાક્ષસીં સલિલેશયામ્||37||

સ||મે છાયા નિગૃહીતા કિંચન | ન ચ પશ્યામિ| વિગતવેગઃ સઃ અહં દશ દિશઃ વિલોકયન્ યેન મે ગતિઃ અપહૃતા કિંચિત્ તત્ર ન પશ્યામિ || તતઃ મેબુદ્ધિઃ ઉત્પન્ના મમ ગગને યત્ર રૂપં ન દૃશ્યતે કિં નામ ઈદૃશઃ વિઘ્નઃ ઉત્પન્નઃ||શોચતા અથો ભાગેન મેદૃષ્ટિઃ મયા પાતિતા | તતઃ સલિલેશયાં મહાં ભીમાં રાક્ષસીં અદ્રાક્ષામ્||

' Then my shadow was being held somehow. I cannot see ( who it is). With reduced speed I looked in ten directions to see who is seizing my movement. I could not see anything. Then it occurred to me "Who is obstructing in the sky not being seen. What is her name who is obstructing me this way" . Thinking so I looked downwards. Then in those waters of the sea a fierce Rakshasi was seen'.

શ્લો|| પ્રહસ્ય ચ મહાનાદ મુક્તોઽહં ભીમયા તયા|
અવસ્થિત મસંભ્રાન્તં ઇદં વાક્યમશોભનમ્||38||
ક્વાસિ ગન્તા મહાકાયા ક્ષુધિતાયા મમેપ્સિતઃ|
ભક્ષઃ પ્રીણય મે દેહં ચિરમાહારવર્જિતમ્||39||

સ||ભીમયા તયા મહાનાદં પ્રહસ્ય અવસ્થિતં અસમ્ભ્રાંતં ઇદં અશોભનમ્ વાક્યં (તયા) અહં ઉક્તઃ|| ઓ મહાકાય ક્વ ગન્તા અસિ| ક્ષુધિતાયાઃ મમ ઈપ્સિતઃ ભક્ષઃ ચિરં આહાર વર્જિતં મે દેહં પ્રીણય||

'I was addressed by her who was frightening, who was laughing loudly. She was steadfast and without any hesitation. " Oh One with huge body ! Where are you going. Hungry without food. I am eager to eat you. Do please my body"..

શ્લો|| બાઢમિત્યેન તાં વાણીં પ્રત્યગૃહ્ણા મહં તતઃ|
અસ્ય પ્રમાણા દધિકં તસ્યાઃ કાય મપૂરયમ્||40||
તસ્યાશ્ચાસ્યં મહદ્ભીમં વર્ધતે મમભક્ષણે|
ન ચ માં સાધુ બુબુધે મમ વા વિકૃતં કૃતમ્||41||
તતોઽહં વિપુલં રૂપં સંક્ષિપ્ય નિમિષાન્તરાત્|
તસ્યા હૃદયમાદાય પ્રપતામિ નભઃ સ્થલમ્||42||

સ|| અહં બાડં ઇત્યેવ તાં વાણીં પ્રત્યગૃહ્ણાં | તતઃ તસ્યાઃ અસ્યપ્રમાણાત્ અધિકં કાયં અપૂરયમ્ ||તસ્યાઃ મહત્ ભીમં આસ્યં ચ મમભક્ષણે | વર્ધતે માં કૃતં મમ વિકૃતં સાધુ ન બુબુધે|| તતઃ અહં નિમિષાન્તરાત્ વિપુલં રૂપં સંક્ષિપ્ય તસ્યાઃ હૃદયં આદાય નભસ્થલં પ્રપતામિ||

'I said well and faced her mouth. Then I enlarged my body to be more than her size. Her big mouth was opened to eat me. She did not know that I grew in size of my own. Then in a moment reducing my large size, I entered her heart and sprang into the sky '.

શ્લો|| સા વિસૃષ્ટભુજા ભીમા પપાત લવણાંભસિ|
મયા પર્વતસંકાશા નિકૃત્ત હૃદયા સતી||43||
શૃણોમિ ખગતાનાં ચ સિદ્ધાનાં ચારણૈઃ સહ|
રાક્ષસી સિંહિકા ભીમા ક્ષિપ્રં હનુમતા હતા||44||

સ|| ભીમા પર્વતસંકાશા સા મયા નિકૃત હૃદયા સતી વિશ્રુષ્ટભુજા લવણાંભસિ પપાત||ચારણૈઃ સહ ખગતાનાં સિદ્ધાનાં ચ ભીમા રાક્ષસી સિંહિકા ક્ષિપ્રં હનુમતા હતા શ્રુણોમિ ||

'Then she who resembled a mountain, fell down in the sea with her arms hanging down as I pulled her heart out. The I heard all the Charanas , Siddhas and those residing in the skies, saying that the fierce Simhika has been killed in a moment'.

શ્લો|| તાં હત્વા પુનરેવાઽહં કૃત્ય માત્યયિકં સ્મરન્|
ગત્વા ચાહં મહાધ્વાનં પશ્યામિ નગમણ્ડિતમ્||45||
દક્ષિણં તીર મુદધેઃ લંકા યત્ર ચ સા પુરી|
અસ્તં દિનકરે યાતે રક્ષસાં નિલયં પુરમ્||46||
પ્રવિષ્ટોઽહં અવિજ્ઞાતો રક્ષોભિર્ભીમવિક્રમૈઃ|

સ|| અહં તામ્ હત્વા પુનરેવ અત્યધિકં કૃત્યં સ્મરન્ મહત્ અધ્વાનં ગત્વા યત્ર સાલંકાપુરી (અસ્તિ) (તત્ર) ઉદધેઃ દક્ષિણમ્ તીરં પશ્યામિ||દિનકરે અસ્તં યાતે અહં ભીમવિક્રમૈઃ રક્ષોભિઃ અવિજ્ઞાતઃ નિલયં પુરં પ્રવિષ્ટઃ||

Then having killed her, thinking again of the great work done , remembering the mission went ahead and saw the city of Lanka on the southern shores. When the sun was setting, unnoticed, I entered the city which was protected by the fierce Rakshasas.

યસ્માત્તસ્માદ્વિજેતાઽસિ સર્વરક્ષાંસ્યશેષતઃ||50||

સ|| તત્ર પ્રવિશતઃ પુરઃ કલ્પાન્તઘનસન્નિભા કાપિ નારી અટ્ટહાસં વિમુંચન્તી ઉત્થિતા||તતઃ જિઘાંસન્તીં જ્વલદગ્નિ શિરોરુહાં સુભૈરવાં તાં સવ્યમુષ્ટિ પ્રહારેન પરાજિત્ય પ્રદોષકાલે પ્રવિશં અહં ભીતયા તયા ઉદિતઃ|| વીર અહં લંકાપુરી તે વિક્રમેણ નિર્જિતા| તસ્માત્ સર્વરક્ષાંસિ અશેષતઃ વિજેતાસિ||

As I entered the city a woman resembling the cloud at the time of dissolution, stood in front of me making great noises . Then the one with the frightening form who had burning hair like sacrificial fire, was hit by me with the fist of my left hand and defeated. I was told by her," Oh Hero I am the city of Lanka, won over by your valor. So you will win over all Rakshasas".

રાવણાંતઃ પુરગતો ન ચાપશ્યં સુમધ્યમામ્||51||
તતસ્સીતા મપશ્યંસ્તુ રાવણસ્ય નિવેશને|
શોકસાગરમાસાદ્ય ન પાર મુપલક્ષયે||52||
શોચતા ચ મયાદૃષ્ટં પ્રાકારેણ સમાવૃતમ્|
કાંચનેન વિકૃષ્ટેન ગૃહોપવનમુત્તમમ્||53||

સ|| અહં તત્ર રાવણાંતઃ પુરઃ સર્વરાત્રં જનકાત્મજાં વિચિન્વન્ ગતઃસુમધ્યમાં ન અપશ્યં ચ|| તતઃ રાવણસ્ય નિવેશને સીતાં અપશ્યં શોકસાગરં આસાદ્ય પારં ન ઉપલક્ષયે||શોચતા મયા કાંચનેન વિકૃષ્ટેન પ્રાકારેણ સમાવૃતં ઉત્તમં ગૃહોપવનં દૃષ્ટં||

'Then through the night I went through the inner chambers of Ravana in search of the daughter of Janaka with beautiful waist. Then not having found Sita, I could not reach the other shore of the sea of sorrows, Thus when I was worried, a long golden wall surrounding a very beautiful and splendid garden was seen'.

શ્લો|| સપ્રાકાર મવપ્લુત્ય પશ્યામિ બહુપાદપમ્|
અશોકવનિકામધ્યે શિંશુપાપાદપોમહાન્||54||
તમારુહ્ય ચ પશ્યામિ કાંચનં કદળીવનમ્|

સ|| સઃ પ્રાકારં અવપ્લુત્ય બહુપાદપં પશ્યામિ| અશોકવનિકા મધ્યે મહાન્ શિંશુપા પાદપઃ | તં આરુહ્ય કાંચનં કદલીવનં પશ્યામિ||

'Climbing on to the boundary wall I see a garden full of many trees. In the center of the Ashoka grove was a Simsupa tree. Climbing on that I saw golden grove of banana plants'.

શ્લો|| અદૂરે શિંશુપાવૃક્ષાત્ પશ્યામિ વરવર્ણિનીમ્||55||
શ્યામાં કમલપત્રાક્ષી મુપવાસકૃશાનનામ્|
તદેકવાસસ્સંવીતાં રજોધ્વસ્ત શિરોરુહામ્||56||
શોકસન્તાપ દીનાંગીં સીતાં ભર્તૃહિતે સ્થિતામ્|
રાક્ષસીભિર્વિરૂપાભિઃ ક્રૂરાભિ રભિસંવૃતામ્||57||
માંસશોણિત ભક્ષાભિઃ વ્યાઘ્રીભિર્હરિણીમિવ|

સ|| શિંશુપાવૃક્ષાત્ અદૂરાત્ વરવર્ણિનીં શ્યામાં કમલપત્રાક્ષીં ઉપવાસકૃશાનનાં તદેક વાસઃ સંવીતાં રજોધ્વસ્ત શિરોરુહાં શોકસંતાપ દીનાંગીં ભર્તૃ હિતે સ્થિતાં વિરૂપાભિઃ ક્રૂરાભિઃ માંસશોણિત બક્ષાભિઃ રાક્ષસીભિઃ વ્યાઘ્રભીઃ હરિણીં ઇવ અભિસંવૃતાં સીતાં પશ્યામિ||

' Not far from the Simsupa tree I saw a beautiful, dark complexioned lady who had eyes resembling a lotus. With a face emaciated due to fasting, she was wearing a single cloth. Her hair was filled with dust. She was lost in sorrow, and is a well-wisher of her husband. Surrounded by ugly cruel Rakshasis who eat flesh soaked in blood , she was like a deer surrounded by a group of tigers'.

એકવેણીધરા દીના ભર્તૃચિન્તાપરાયણા|
ભૂમિશય્યા વિવર્ણાંગી પદ્મિનીવ હિમાગમે||59||
રાવણાત્ વિનિવૃતાર્થા મર્તવ્યકૃતનિશ્ચયા|
કથંચિન્ મૃગશાબાક્ષી તૂર્ણમાસાદિતા મયા||60||

મુમુર્મુહુઃ તર્જ્યમાના એકવેણી ધરા દીના ભર્તૃ ચિન્તાપરાયણા ભૂમિશય્યા વિવર્ણાંગી હિમાગમે પદ્મિનીમ્ ઇવ રાવણાત્ વિનિવૃતાર્થં મર્તવ્ય કૃતનિશ્ચયા સા મયા રાક્ષસી મધ્યે અસાદિતા મૃગશાબાક્ષી મયા કથં ચિત્ તૂર્ણં આસાદિતા||

' She was every moment being threatened, wearing a single braid, looking piteous , thinking only about her husband , lying down on the ground. Pale , like a lotus at the onset of winter, not knowing how to escape Ravana, she was set on giving up life. Seated in the middle of the Rakshasa women, with eyes like that of a deer, she was somehow quickly seen by me'.

શ્લો|| તાં દૃષ્ટ્વા તાદૃશીં નારીં રામપત્નીં યશસ્વિનીમ્|
તત્રૈવ શિંશુપાવૃક્ષે પશ્યન્નહમવસ્થિતઃ||61||

સા|| અહં તાદૃશીમ્ નારીં યશસ્વિનીમ્ તાં રામપત્નીં દૃષ્ટ્વા તત્ર શિંશુપા વૃક્ષે અવસ્થિતઃ||

Seeing the renowned woman, the wife of Rama, I remained on the Simsupa tree.

શ્લો|| તતો હલહલાશબ્દં કાઞ્ચીનૂપુરમિશ્રિતમ્|
શ્રુણોમ્યધિક ગમ્ભીરં રાવણસ્ય નિવેશને||62||
તતોઽહં પરમોદ્વિગ્નઃ સ્વં રૂપં પ્રતિસંહરન્|
અહં તુ શિંશુપાવૃક્ષે પક્ષીવ ગહને સ્થિતઃ||63||
તતો રાવણ દારાશ્ચ રાવણશ્ચ મહાબલઃ|
તં દેશં સમનુપ્રાપ્તા યત્ર સીતાઽભવત્ સ્થિતા||64||

સ|| તતઃ રાવણસ્ય નિવેશને કાચિનૂપુર મિશ્રિતં અધિક ગંભીરં હલહલાશબ્દં શૃણોમિ ||તતઃ અહં પરમોદ્વિગ્નઃ સ્વં રૂપં પ્રત્યસંહરન્ અહં તુ ગહને શિંશુપાવૃક્ષે પક્ષીવ સ્થિતઃ||તતઃ મહાબલઃ રાવણઃ રાવણશ્ચ દારાઃ ચ યત્ર સીતા સ્થિતા અભવત્ તં દેશં સમનુપ્રાપ્તાઃ||

Then I heard a loud noise from the Ravana's harem mixed with sounds of jingling golden anklets. Then very scared I contracted my form and remained like a bird on the Simsupa tree. Then the mighty Ravana along with his wives came to the place where Sita is seated.

શ્લો|| તં દૃષ્ટ્વાઽથ વરારોહા સીતા રક્ષોગણેશ્વરમ્|
સંકુચ્યોરૂસ્તનૌ પીનૌ બાહૂભ્યાં પરિરભ્ય ચ||65||
વિત્રસ્તાં પરમોદ્વિગ્નાં વીક્ષમાણાં તતસ્તતઃ|
ત્રાણાં કિંચિદપશ્યન્તીં વેપમાનાં તપસ્વિનીમ્||66||
તામુવાચ દશગ્રીવઃ સીતાં પરમદુઃખિતા|
અવાક્છિરાઃ પ્રપતિતો બહુમન્યસ્વ મામિતિ||67||
યદિચેત્ત્વં તુ દર્પાનામાં નાભિનન્દસિ ગર્વિતે|
દ્વૌમાસાનન્તરં સીતે પાસ્યામિ રુધિરં તવ||68||

સ|| અથ વરારોહા સીતા રક્ષોગણેશ્વરં તં દૃષ્ટ્વા ઊરુ બાહુભ્યાં સંકુચ્ય પીનૌ સ્તનૌ પરિરભ્યચ ||વિત્રસ્તામ્ પરમોદ્વિગ્નાં તતઃ તતઃ વીક્ષમાનાં કિંચિત્ ત્રાણાં અપશ્યન્તીં વેપમાનાં તપસ્વિનીં પરમદુઃખિતાં તાં સીતાં દશગ્રીવઃ અવાક્ચિરાઃ પ્રતીતં મામ્ બહુમન્યસ્વ ઇતિ ઉવાચ||ગર્વિતે સીતે ત્વં દર્પાત્ મમ ન અભિનન્દસિ યદિ ચેત્ દ્વૌ માસૌ તવ રુધિર પશ્યામિ||

The then best among women seeing the lord of the Rakshasas, covered her plump breasts with her shoulders and thighs. Sita who was full of fear and was very much worried , who is looking here and there, who not seeing anybody who can protect her was trembling with fear , who is ever meditating, who is in sorrow, was addressed by Ravana who bent his head down and said "Trust me and respect me. Oh Proud Sita ! In your pride if you do not respect me in two months I will see your blood ".

શ્લો|| એતત્ચ્રુત્વા વચસ્તસ્ય રાવણસ્ય દુરાત્મનઃ|
ઉવાચ પરમકૃદ્ધા સીતા વચનમુત્તમમ્||69||

સા|| દુરાત્મનઃ તસ્ય રાવણસ્ય વચઃ શ્રુત્વા પરમકૃદ્ધા સીતા ઉત્તમં વચનં ઉવાચ||

Hearing those words of the evil minded Ravana, Sita was very angry and spoke these excellent words..

શ્લો|| રાક્ષસાધમ રામસ્ય ભાર્યામમિત તેજસઃ|
ઇક્ષ્વાકુકુલનાથસ્ય સ્નુષાં દશરથસ્ય ચ||70||
અવાચ્યં વદતો જિહ્વા કથં ન પતિતા તવ|
કિંચિદ્વીર્યં તવાનાર્યં યો માં ભર્તુરસન્નિધૌ||71||
અપહૃત્યાઽઽગતઃ પાપ તેનાઽદૃષ્ટો મહાત્મના|
ન ત્વં રામસ્ય સદૃશો દાસ્યેઽપ્યસ્ય ન યુજ્યસે||72||
યજ્ઞીયઃ સત્યવાદી ચ રણશ્લાઘી ચ રાઘવઃ|

સ|| રાક્ષસાધમ અમિત તેજસઃ રામસ્ય ભાર્યાં ઇક્ષ્વાકુકુલ નાથસ્ય દશરથસ્ય સ્નુષાં ચ અવાચ્યં વદતઃ તવ જિહ્વા કથં ન પતિતા||ન આર્ય પાપ યઃ ભર્તુઃ અસન્નિધૌ મામ્ અપહૃત્ય મહાત્મના તેન અદૃષ્ટઃ આગતઃ તવ વીર્યં કિંચિત્||ત્વં રામસ્ય સદૃશઃ ન | અસ્ય દાસ્યે અપિ ન યુજ્યસે |રાઘવઃ યજ્ઞીયઃ | સત્યવાદી| રણશ્લાઘી ચ||

" Oh Worst among Rakshasas! speaking words that shall not be spoken to the wife of highly valorous Rama, the daughter in law of Dasaratha , the leader of Ikshvaku race, how is it that your tongue has not fallen down. Oh Ignoble sinner ! Abducting me when my husband is not near, coming unseen by the great one, you have no courage. You are not equal to Rama. You cannot be even his servant . Rama is a performer of Yagnyas. He is truthful and valiant in war".

શ્લો|| જાનક્યા પરુષં વાક્યમેવ મુક્તો દશાનનઃ||73||
જજ્વાલ સહસા કોપા ચ્ચિતાસ્થ ઇવપાવકઃ|
વિવૃત્ય નયને ક્રૂરે મુષ્ટિમુદ્યમ દક્ષિણમ્||74||
મૈથિલીં હન્તુમારબ્દઃ સ્ત્રીભિર્હાહાકૃતં તદા|

સ|| જાનક્યાઃ એવં પરુષં વાક્યં ઉક્તઃ દશાનનઃ સહસા ચિતાસ્થઃ પાવકઃ ઇવ કોપાત્ જજ્વાલ|| કૄરે નયને વિવૃત્ય દક્ષિણં મુષ્ટિં ઉદ્યમ્ય મૈથિલીં હન્તું આરબ્ધઃ તદા સ્ત્રીભિઃ હાહાકૃતં||

Hearing those harsh words of Janaki, the ten-headed one immediately blazed up in anger like the funeral fire. Raising his eyebrows, lifting his right fist he got ready to strike at Maithili. Then the ladies raised their voice.

શ્લો|| સ્ત્રીણાં મધ્યાત્ સમુત્પત્ય તસ્ય ભાર્યા દુરાત્મનઃ||75||
વરા મંડોદરી નામ તયા ચ પ્રતિષેદિતઃ |
ઉક્તશ્ચ મધુરાં વાણીં તયા સ મદનાર્દિતઃ||76||
સીતાયા તવ કિં કાર્યં મહેન્દ્રસમવિક્રમઃ|
દેવગન્ધર્વકન્યાભિઃ યક્ષકન્યાભિ રેવ ચ||77||
સાર્થં પ્રભો રમસ્વેહ સીતયા કિં કરિષ્યસિ|

સ|| દુરાત્મનઃ તસ્ય ભાર્યા મંડોદરી નામ વરા સ્ત્રીણાં મધ્યાત્ સમુત્પત્ય તયા સઃ પ્રતિષેધિતઃ||મદનાર્દિતઃ સઃ તયા મધુરાં વાણીં ઉક્તશ્ચ | મહેન્દ્રસમવિક્રમઃ સીતયા તવ કિંકાર્યં ||પ્રભો દેવગન્ધર્વકન્યાભિઃ યક્ષકન્યાભિરેવ ચ સાર્ધં ઇહ રમસ્વ| સીતયા કિં કરિષ્યસિ||

The wife of evil minded one, a noble one by name Mandodari getting up from among the women prevented him. She spoke sweet words to him who was tormented by god of love. " Oh Being equal to Mahendra in Valor ! What is your desire with Sita. Oh Lord you can enjoy with Deva Gandharva Yaksha women. Why do you need Sita".

શ્લો|| તતસ્તાભિઃ સમેતાભિર્નારીભિઃ સ મહાબલઃ||78||
પ્રસાદ્ય સહસા નીતો ભવનં સ્વં નિશાચરઃ|
યાતે તસ્મિન્ દશગ્રીવે રાક્ષસ્યો વિકૃતાનનઃ||79||
સીતાં નિર્ભર્ત્સયામાસુઃ વાક્યૈઃ ક્રૂરૈઃ સુદારુણૈઃ|

સ|| તત્ઃ મહાબલઃ સઃ નિશાચરઃ સમેતાભિઃ તાભિઃ નારીભિઃ પ્રસાદ્ય સહસા સ્વં ભવનં નીતઃ||તસ્મિન્ દશગ્રીવે યાતે વિકૃતાનનઃ રાક્ષસ્યઃ કૄરૈઃ સુદારુણૈઃ વાક્યૈઃ સીતાં નિર્ભર્ત્સયામાસુઃ||

'Then that mighty night being quickly won over by all the women gathered , was taken back to his palace. When the ten-headed one went , the ugly faced Rakshasis , started threatening Sita with frightful words'.

શ્લો|| તૃણવદ્ભાષિતં તાસાં ગણયામાસ જાનકી||80||
ગર્જિતં ચ તદા તાસાં સીતાં પ્રાપ્ય નિરર્થકમ્|
વૃથાગર્જિત નિશ્ચેષ્ટા રાક્ષસ્યઃ પિશિતાશનાઃ||81||
રાવણાય શશંસુસ્તાઃ સીતાઽધ્યવસિતં મહત્|
તતસ્તાઃ સહિતા સર્વા નિહિતાશા નિરુદ્યમાઃ||82||
પરિક્ષિપ્ય સમન્તાત્ તાં નિદ્રાવશમુપાગતાઃ|

સ||જાનકી તાસાં ભાષિતં તૃણવત્ ગણયામાસ| તદા તાસાં ગર્જિતાં સીતાં પ્રાપ્ય નિરર્થકં||પિશિતાશનાઃ તાઃ રાક્ષસ્યઃ વૃધાગર્જિતનિશ્ચેષ્ટાઃ મહત્ તત્ સીતાદ્યવસિતમ્ રાવણાય શશંસુઃ||તતઃ સર્વાઃ સહિતાઃ નિહત આશાઃ નિરુદ્યમાઃ તાં સમન્તાત્ નિદ્રાવસમ્ ઉપાગતાઃ||

' Janaki considered their words as worthless as a blade of grass, their frightening threats were of no use. The flesh eating Rakshasis with their threats being useless, reported to Ravana about the great determination of Sita, Then all of them , having given up the hopes, having given up the efforts too, fell asleep.'

શ્લો|| તાસુચૈવ પ્રસુપ્તાસુ સીતા ભર્તૃહિતે રતા||83||
વિલપ્ય કરુણં દીના પ્રશુશોચ સુદુઃખિતા|

સ|| તાસુ પ્રસુપ્તાસુ ભર્તૃહિતે રતા સીતા દીના કરુણં વિલપ્ય સુદુઃખિતા પ્રશુશોચ||

While they were sleeping , Sita , committed to the well-being of her husband, piteous , very sad, lamented.

શ્લો|| તાસાં મધ્યાત્ સમુત્થાય ત્રિજટા વાક્યમબ્રવીત્||84||
આત્માનં ખાદત ક્ષિપ્રં ન સીતા વિનશિષ્યતિ|
જનકસ્યાત્મજા સાધ્વી સ્નુષા દશરથસ્ય ચ||85||
સ્વપ્નો હ્યદ્ય મયા દૃષ્ટો દારુણો રોમહર્ષણઃ|
રક્ષસાં ચ વિનાશાય ભર્તુરસ્યા જયાય ચ||86||
અલમસ્માત્ પરિત્રાતું રાઘવાદ્રાક્ષસીગણં|
અભિચાયામ વૈદેહી મે તદ્દિ મમરોચતે||87||

સ|| તાસાં મધ્યાત્ સુમુત્થાય ત્રિજટા વાક્યં અબ્રવીત્| ક્ષિપ્રં આત્માનં ખાદત | જનકસ્ય આત્મજા સાધ્વી દશરથસ્ય સ્નુષા સીતા ન વિનશિષ્યતિ||અદ્ય મયા દારુણઃ રોહહર્ષનઃ સ્વપ્નઃ દૃષ્ટા| અસ્ય ભર્તુઃ જયાય રક્ષસાં વિનાશાય ચ|| અસ્માત્ રાઘવાત્ રાક્ષસીગણં પરિત્રાતું અલં વૈદેહીં અભિયાચામ | એતત્ મમ રોચતે હિ||

From among them Trijata woke up and spoke these words. " You eat yourselves. the daughter of Janaka and the daughter in law of Dasaratha will not be destroyed. Today I saw a horrible hair raising dream. The victory of her husband and the destruction of Rakshasas is foreseen. To protect us from Raghava we should plead with Vaidehi only. That is indeed what I think".

શ્લો|| યસ્યા હ્યેનં વિધઃ સ્વપ્નો દુઃખિતાયાઃ પ્રદૃશ્યતે|
સા દુઃખૈર્વિવિધૈર્મુક્તા સુખમાપ્નોત્યનુત્તમમ્||88||
પ્રણિપાતા પ્રસન્ના હિ મૈથિલી જનકાત્મજા|
તતસ્સા હ્રીમતી બાલા ભર્તુર્વિજયહર્ષિતા||89||
અવોચત્ યદિ તત્ તથ્યં ભવેયં શરણં હિ વઃ|

સ|| યસ્યાઃ દુઃખિતાયાઃ એવં વિધઃ સ્વપ્નઃ પ્રદૃશ્યતે સા વિવિધૈઃ દુઃખૈઃ વિમુક્તા અનુત્તમં સુખં આપ્નોતિ | જનકાત્મજા મૈથિલી પ્રણિપાત પ્રસન્ના હિ||તતઃ સા હ્રીમતી બાલા સા ભર્તુઃ વિજયહર્ષિતા અવોચત્| તત્ તથ્યં યદિ વઃ શરણં ભવેયં||

Whoever in a sorrowful state sees such a dream will be relieved of all sorrows and will also experience happiness. The Janaka's daughter, Sita, will bless us with protection. Then that bashful young lady delighted to hear about her husband's victory spoke. "If that is true I shall protect you".

શ્લો|| તાં ચાહં તાદૃશીં દૃષ્ટ્વા સીતાયા દારુણાં દશામ્||90||
ચિન્તયામાસ વિક્રાન્તો ન ચ મે નિર્વૃતં મનઃ|
સંભાષણાર્થં ચ મયા જાનક્યાશ્ચિન્તિતો વિધિઃ||91||
ઇક્ષ્વાકૂણાં હિ વંશસ્તુ તતો મમ પુરસ્કૃતઃ|

સ|| અહં સીતાયાઃ તાદૃશીં તામ્ દશાં દૃષ્ટ્વા ચિન્તયામાસ| વિક્રાન્તઃમેમનઃ ન નિર્વૃતમ્||મયા જાનક્યાઃ સંભાષણાર્થં વિધિ ચિન્તિતઃ તતઃ ઇક્ષ્વાકૂણાં વંશસ્તુ મમ પુરસ્કૃતઃ||

'Seeing that state of Sita , I started thinking. Though heroic my mind was not at peace. To start the conversation with Sita I thought of a strategy of praising the Ikshvaku race'.

શ્લો|| શ્રુત્વા તુ ગદિતાં વાચં રાજર્ષિ ગણપૂજિતામ્||92||
પ્રત્યભાષત માં દેવીભાષ્પૈઃ પિહિતલોચના|
કસ્ત્વં કેન કથં ચેહ પ્રાપ્તો વાનરપુંગવ||93||
કાચ રામેણ તે પ્રીતિઃ તન્મે શંસિતુમર્હસિ|

સ|| દેવી રાજર્ષિગણપૂજિતામ્ ગદિતાં વાચં શ્રુત્વા પિહિતલોચનઃ મામ્ પ્રત્યભાષત|| વાનરપુંગવ ત્વં કઃ | કેન કથં ઇહ પ્રાપ્તઃ| તે રામેણ પ્રીતિઃ કા | તત્ શંસિતું અર્હસિ||

The divine lady too hearing those words spoken by me in praise of the royal seers, with tears in her eyes, she spoke to me. " Oh Foremost of Vanaras ! Who are you. Why and how you have come here. How did you become friends with Rama. That you deserve to tell me".

શ્લો|| તસ્યાસ્તદ્વચનં શ્રુત્વા હ્યહ મપ્યબ્રુવં વચઃ||94||
દેવિ રામસ્ય ભર્તુસ્તે સહાયો ભીમવિક્રમઃ|

તસ્યમાં વિદ્ધિ ભૃત્યં ત્વં હનુમન્ત મિહાઽઽગતમ્|
ભર્ત્રાઽહં પ્રેષિતઃ તુભ્યં રામેણાઽક્લિષ્ટકર્મણઃ||96||
ઇદં ચ પુરુષવ્યાઘ્રઃ શ્રીમાન્ દાશરથિઃ સ્વયમ્|
અંગુળીય મભિજ્ઞાન મદાત્ તુભ્યં યસસ્વિનિ||97||

સ|| તસ્યાઃ તત્ વચનં શ્રુત્વા અહં અપિ વચઃ અબ્રુવન્| દેવિ ભર્તુઃ સહાયઃ મહાબલઃ ભીમવિક્રમઃ સુગ્રીવો નામ વિક્રાન્તઃ વાનરેંદ્રઃ | ઇહ આગતં મામ્ તસ્ય ભૃત્યં ત્વં વિદ્ધિ| અહં ભર્ત્રા અક્લિષ્ટકર્મણા રામેણ તુભ્યં પ્રેષિતઃ||યશસ્વિનિ પુરુષવ્યાઘ્રઃ શ્રીમાન્ દાશરથિઃ સ્વયં અંગુળીયં તુભ્યં અભિજ્ઞાનં આદાત્||

Hearing those words I also spoke in reply. "Oh Queen ! Sugriva the warrior of fierce valor and King of Vanaras developed friendship with your husband. Know me who is here as his servant. I have been sent for you by your husband Rama who is tireless in action. Oh Glorious lady ! The tiger among men, the Illustrious son of Dasaratha gave this ring as a token of identity".

શ્લો|| તદિચ્છામિ ત્વયાઽઽજ્ઞપ્તં દેવિ કિંકરવાણ્યહમ્|
રામલક્ષ્મણયોઃ પાર્શ્વં નયામિ ત્વાં કિમુત્તરમ્||98||
એતત્ શ્રુત્વા વિદિત્વા ચ સીતા જનકનન્દિની|
અહ રાવણ મુત્સાદ્ય રાઘવો માં નયત્વિતિ ||99||
પ્રણમ્ય શિરસા દેવી મહમાર્યા મનિન્દિતામ્|
રાઘવસ્ય મનોહ્લાદ અભિજ્ઞાનં મયાચિષમ્||100||

સ|| દેવિ તત્ ત્વયા આજ્ઞાપ્તં ઇચ્છામિ | અહં કિં કરવાણિ | ત્વાં રામલક્ષ્મણયોઃ પાર્શ્વં નયામિ| ઉત્તરં કિં||જનકનંદિની સીતા એતત્ શ્રુત્વા વિદિત્વા ચ રાઘવઃ રાવણં ઉત્સાદ્ય માં નયતુ ઇતિ આહ||અહં અર્યાં અનિંદિતાં દેવીં શિરસા પ્રણમ્ય રાઘવસ્ય મનોહ્લાદ અભિજ્ઞાનં અયાચિષં||

"Of Devi I am ready to be ordered by you. What should I do. I can take you to be by the side of Rama and Lakshmana. What do you say'. Sita, the delight of Janaka having heard this and having thought over said " Rama should kill Ravana and take me". Then bowing down with my head and offering salutations to the blameless lady , I asked for a token that will be pleasing to Raghava'.

શ્લો|| અથ મામબ્રવીત્ સીતા ગૃહ્યતામયમુત્તમઃ|
મણિર્યેન મહાબાહૂ રામસ્ત્વાં બહુમન્યતે||101||
ઇત્યુક્ત્વાતુ વરારોહા મણિપ્રવરમદ્ભુતમ્|
પ્રાયચ્છત્ પરમોદ્વિગ્ના વાચા માં સંદિદેશ હ||102||
તતસ્તસ્યૈ પ્રણમ્યાહં રાજપુત્ય્રૈ સમાહિતઃ|
પ્રદક્ષિણં પરિક્રામ મિહાભ્યુદ્ગતમાનસઃ||103||

સ|| અથ સીતા માં અબ્રવીત્ | ઉત્તમઃ અયં મણિઃ ગૃહ્યતામ્ યેન મહાબાહુઃ રામઃ ત્વાં બહુમન્યતે ||વરારોહા ઇતિ ઉક્ત્વા અદ્ભુતં મણિપ્રવરં પ્રાયચ્છત્|પરમોદ્વિગ્નઃ મામ્ વાચા સન્દિદેશ ચ||તતઃ અહમ્ તસ્યૈ રાજપુત્ર્યૈ પ્રણમ્ય સમાહિતઃ ઇહ અભ્યુદાગમન માનસઃ પ્રદક્ષિણં પરિક્રામમ્||

Then Sita spoke to me. "Take this best of gems, with this the long armed Rama will respect you." The best among ladies having said so, gave the wonderful gem. Being anxious she gave a message also." Then I having paid obeisance to the princess, with a focused mind on going back circumambulated her again'.

શ્લો|| ઉક્તોઽહં પુનરેવેદં નિશ્ચિત્ય મનસા તયા|
હનુમાન્મમ વૃત્તાનં વક્તુ મર્હસિ રાઘવે||104||
યથાશ્રુત્વૈવ ન ચિરાત્તાવુભૌ રામલક્ષ્મણૌ|
સુગ્રીવસહિતૌ વીરા વુપેયાતાં તથા કુરુ||105||
યદન્યથા ભવેદેતત્ દ્વૌમાસૌ જીવિતં મમ|
ન માં દ્રક્ષ્યતિ કાકુત્‍સ્થોમ્રિયે સાઽહમનાથવત્||106||

સ|| અહમ્ તયા મનસા નિશ્ચિત્ય પુનરેવ ઉક્તઃ | હનુમાન્ રાઘવે મમ વૃત્તાંતં વક્તું અર્હસિ||વીરૌ તૌ રામલક્ષ્મણૌ ઉભૌ શ્રુત્વૈવ સુગ્રીવસહિતૌ અ ચિરાત્ યથા ઉપેયાતાં તથ કુરુ||યદિ અન્યથા ભવેત્ મમ જીવિતં દ્વૌમાસૌ (હિ)| (યદિ) કાકુત્‍સ્થઃ મામ્ નદ્રક્ષ્યતિ (તદા) અહં અનાધવત્ મ્રિયે ||

Again deliberating in her mind I was spoken to. "Oh Hanuman You should tell my story to Rama. You may convey in a way that the two heroes along with Sugriva should come here as soon as they hear. Or else Kakutstha will not see me, as my life is only for two more months. I will die like an orphan".

શ્લો|| તચ્છ્રુત્વા કરુણં વાક્યં ક્રોધો મામભ્યવર્તત|
ઉત્તરં ચ મયા દૃષ્ટં કાર્યશેષમનંતરમ્||107||
તતોઽવર્ધત મે કાયસ્તદા પર્વતસન્નિભઃ|
યુદ્ધકાંક્ષી વનં તચ્ચ વિનાશયિતુમારભે||108||
તદ્ભગ્નં વનષણ્ડં તુ ભ્રાન્તત્રસ્ત મૃગદ્વિજમ્|
પ્રતિબુદ્ધા નિરીક્ષન્તે રાક્ષસ્યા વિકૃતાનનઃ||109||

સ|| તત્ કરુણં વાક્યં શ્રુત્વા મામ્ ક્રોધઃ અભ્યવર્તત| મયા ઉત્તરં અનંતરં કાર્યશેષં દૃષ્ટમ્ ચ||તતઃ યુદ્ધકાંક્ષી મે કાયઃ તદા પર્વતસન્નિભઃ અવર્ધત| તત્ વનં વિનાશયિતું આરભે અ||વિકૃતાનનઃ રાક્ષસ્યઃ પ્રતિબુદ્ધાઃ ભગ્નં ભ્રાન્તત્રસ્તમૃગદ્વિજં તત્ વનષણ્ડં નિરીક્ષન્તે||

' Hearing those piteous words I became very angry. After her reply I saw the action left to be done. Then desirous of a battle I grew my size to that of mountain. Then I started destroying the grove. The ugly Rakshasa women , woke up and saw the destroyed garden, with terrified birds and beasts'.

શ્લો|| માં ચ દૃષ્ટ્વા વને તસ્મિન્ સમાગમ્ય તતસ્તતઃ|
તાઃ સમભ્યાઽઽગતાઃ ક્ષિપ્રં રાવણાયચ ચક્ષિરે||110||
રાજન્ વનમિદં દુર્ગં તવ ભગ્નં દુરાત્મના|
વાનરેણ હ્યવિજ્ઞાય તવ વીર્યં મહાબલ||111||
દુર્બુદ્ધેસ્તસ્ય રાજેન્દ્ર તવ વિપ્રિયકારિણઃ|
વધમાજ્ઞાપય ક્ષિપ્રં યથાઽસૌ વિલયં પ્રજેત્||112||

સ|| તતસ્તતઃ સમાગમ્ય તસ્મિન્ વને મામ્ દૃષ્ટ્વા ક્ષિપ્રં સમભ્યાગતઃ રાવણાય આચચક્ષિરે||મહાબલ રાજન્ દુરાત્મના વાનરેણ તવ વીર્યં અવિજ્ઞાય દુર્ગં તવ ઇદં વનં ભગ્નં ||રાજેન્દ્ર તવ વિપ્રિયકારિણઃ દુર્બુદ્ધેઃ તસ્ય વધં આજ્ઞાપય અસૌ વિલયં વ્રજેત્ ||

Having gathered together, seeing me in the grove, understanding at once they reported to Ravana. " Oh Mighty King ! , Not knowing your strength, the grove in the fort has been destroyed by an evil minded Vanara. Oh King of kings ! The aimless wanderer acting contrary to you interest must be ordered to be killed".

શ્લો|| તચ્છ્રુત્વા રાક્ષસેન્દ્રેણ વિસૃષ્ટા ભૃશદુર્જયાઃ|
રાક્ષસાઃ કિંકરા નામ રાવણસ્ય મનોઽનુગાઃ||113||
તેષામશીતિ સાહસ્રં શૂલમુદ્ગરપાણિનામ્|
મયા તસ્મિન્ વનોદ્દેશે પરિઘેણ નિષૂદિતમ્||114||
તેશાં તુ હતશેષા યે તે ગત્વા લઘુવિક્રમાઃ|
નિહતં ચ મહત્ સૈન્યં રાવણાયાચચક્ષિરે||115||

સ||તત્ શ્રુત્વા રાક્ષસેન્દ્રેણ ભૃશ દુર્જયાઃ રાવણસ્ય મનોનુગાઃ કિંકરા નામ રાક્ષસાઃ વિસ્રુષ્ટાઃ||તસ્મિન્ વનોદ્દેશે શૂલમુદ્ગરપાણિનામ્ અશીતિ સાહસ્રં મયા પરિઘેણ નિષૂદિતં|| તેષાં યે હતશેષાઃ તે લઘુવિક્રમાઃ ગત્વા મહત્ સૈન્યં નિહતં રાવણાય આચચક્ષિરે||

Having heard that, the king of Rakshasas, sent Rakshasas by the name Kinkaras who are invincible , who know his mind. In that grove with an iron bar I killed eighty thousand Rakshasas who were armed with spears and maces . Among them those that are not killed, the less powerful ones went and reported to Ravana that the great army has been destroyed'.

શ્લો|| તતો મે બુદ્ધિરુત્પન્ના ચૈત્ય પ્રાસાદમાક્રમમ્|
તત્રસ્થાન્ રાક્ષસાન્ હત્વા શતં સ્તમ્ભેન વૈપુનઃ||116||
લલામ ભૂતો લંકાયાઃ સ વૈવિધ્વંસિતો મયા|

સ||તતઃ મે બુદ્ધિઃ ઉત્પન્ના ઉત્પન્ના ચૈત્યપ્રાસાદં આક્રમં સ્તંભેન તત્રસ્થાન્ શતમ્ રાક્ષસાન્ હત્વા પુનઃ મયા લંકાયાઃ લલામભૂતઃ સઃ વિધ્વંસિતઃ||

'Then it occurred to me to take hold of the high rise mansion. Having killed hundred Rakshasas stationed there with a pillar, I destroyed the decorative mansion'.

શ્લો|| તતઃ પ્રહસ્તસ્ય સુતં જંબુમાલિનમાદિશત્||117||
રાક્ષસૈર્બહુભિઃ સાર્થં ઘોરરૂપ ભયાનકૈઃ|
તં મહાબલસંપન્નં રાક્ષસં રણકોવિદમ્||118||
પરિઘેણાતિ ઘોરેણ સૂદયામિ સહાનુગં|

સ|| તતઃ ઘોરરૂપૈઃ ભયાનકૈઃ બહુભિઃ રાક્ષસૈઃ સાર્ધં પ્રહસ્તસ્ય સુતં જમ્બુમાલિનમ્ આદિશત્ ||મહાબલસંપન્નં રણકોવિદં સહાનુગં રાક્ષસં ઘોરેણ પરિઘેણ સૂદયામિ ||

Then many Rakshasas who are terrific in appearance, who are frightening, together with Prahasta's son and Jambumali were ordered. Then that expert in war endowed with great strength , along with other Rakshasas who accompanied him were killed using the terrific iron bar..

શ્લો|| તચ્છ્રુત્વા રાક્ષસેંદ્રસ્તુ મંત્રિપુત્ત્રાન્ મહાબલાન્||119||
પદાતિ બલસંપન્નાન્ પ્રેષયામાસ રાવણઃ|
પરિઘેણૈવ તાન્ સર્વાન્ નયામિ યમસાદનમ્||120||
મંત્રિપુત્ત્રાન્ હતાન્ શ્રુત્વા સમરે લઘુવિક્રમાન્|
પંચ સેનાગ્રગાન્ શૂરાન્ પ્રેષયામાસ રાવણઃ||121||

સ|| તત્ શ્રુત્વા રાક્ષસેન્દ્રઃ મહાબલાન્ પદાતિબલસંપન્નાન્ મન્ત્રિપુત્ત્રાન્ રાવણઃ પ્રેષયામાસ||તાન્ સર્વાન્ પરિઘેણૈવ યમસાદનં નયામિ |રાવણઃ મન્ત્રિપુત્ત્રાન્ હતાન્ શ્રુત્વા લઘુવિક્રમાન્ પંચ સેનાગ્રગાન્ સમરે પ્રેષયામાસ||

Hearing that the king of Rakshasas sent powerful sons of the minister along with mighty foot soldiers. I sent all of them to the abode of Yama with that iron bar. Ravana hearing that the less valiant sons of the minister were killed, sent five army generals..

શ્લો|| તાનહં સહસૈન્યાન્ વૈ સર્વાનેવાભ્યસૂદયમ્|
તતઃ પુનર્દશગ્રીવઃ પુત્ત્રમક્ષં મહાબલમ્||122||
બહુભી રાક્ષસૈસ્સાર્થં પ્રેષયામાસ રાવણઃ|
તં તુ મન્ડોદરીપુત્ત્રં કુમારં રણપણ્ડિતમ્||123||
સહસા ખં સમુત્ક્રાન્તં પાદયોશ્ચ ગૃહીતવાન્ |
ચર્માસિનં શતગુણં ભ્રામયિત્વા વ્યપેષયમ્||124||

સ|| અહં સહસૈન્યાન્ તાન્ સર્વાન્ અભ્યસૂદયમ્| તતઃ દશગ્રીવઃ રાવણઃ મહાબલં પુત્રં અક્ષં બહુભિઃ રાક્ષસૈઃ સાર્ધં પ્રેષયામાસ||રણપણ્ડિતં મન્દોદરી પુત્ત્રં ખમ્ ઉત્ક્રાંતં ચર્માસિનં કુમારં સહસા પાદયોઃ ગૃહીતવાન્ | શતગુણં ભ્રામયિત્વા વ્યપેષયમ્||

' I killed all of them along with their army. Then the ten-headed Ravana ordered his powerful son Aksha along with many Rakshasas. The expert in war, and son of Mandodari, when he rose up in the skies he was caught by his feet. Whirled around hundred times he was smashed to the ground'.

શ્લો|| તં અક્ષમાગતમ્ ભગ્નં નિશમ્ય સ દશાનનઃ|
તત ઇન્દ્રજિતં નામ દ્વિતીયં રાવણસ્સુતમ્||125||
વ્યાદિદેશ સુસંક્રુદ્ધો બલિનં યુદ્ધદુર્મદમ્|

સ|| દશાનનઃ રાવણઃ આગતં અક્ષં ભગ્નં નિશમ્ય સુસંકૃદ્ધઃ | તતઃ બલિનં યુદ્ધદુર્મદમ્ ઇન્દ્રજિતં નામ દ્વિતીયં સુતં વ્યાદિદેશ||

' The ten-headed Ravana hearing that Aksha was killed became enraged. Then he ordered his second son the mighty Indrajit who is thirsting for war'.

શ્લો|| તચ્ચાપ્યહં બલં સર્વં તં ચ રાક્ષસપુંગવમ્||126||
નષ્ટૌજસં રણે કૃત્વા પરં હર્ષમુપાગમમ્|
મહતાઽપિ મહાબાહુઃ પ્રત્યયેન મહાબલઃ||127||
પ્રેષિતો રાવણે નૈવ સહવીરૈર્મદોત્કટૈઃ|

સ|| અહમ્ સર્વં તત્ બલં ચ તં રાક્ષસપુંગવં રણે નષ્ટૌજસં કૃત્વા પરં હર્ષં ઉપાગમમ્||મહાબાહુઃ મહાબલઃ મદોત્કટૈઃ વીરૈ સહ રાવણેનૈવ મહતા પ્રત્યયેન પ્રેષિતઃ||

' Having destroyed the whole army and the Rakshasa warriors in the battle I was very happy. Ravana again sent warriors who are strong armed, powerful, intoxicated' .

શ્લો|| સોઽવિષહ્યં હિ માં બુદ્ધ્વા સ્વં બલં ચાવમર્દિતમ્||128||
બ્રાહ્મેણાસ્ત્રેણ સ તુ માં પ્રાબધ્નાચ્ચાતિવેગિતઃ|
રજ્જુભિશ્ચાપિ બધ્નન્તિ તતો માં તત્ર રાક્ષસાઃ||129||
રાવણસ્ય સમીપં ચ ગૃહીત્વા મામુપાનયન્|
દૃષ્ટ્વા સંભાષિતશ્ચાહં રાવણેન દુરાત્મના||130||
પૃષ્ટશ્ચ લંકાગમનં રાક્ષસાનાં ચ તં વધમ્|

સ||સઃ માં અવિષહ્યં બુદ્ધ્વા સ્વં બલં ચ અવમર્દિતં સ તુ અતિવેગિતઃ મામ્ બ્રહ્મેણ અસ્ત્રેણ પ્રબધ્નાત્||તતઃ તત્ર રાક્ષસાઃ મામ્ રજ્જુભિઃ અભિભધ્નન્તિ| મામ્ ગૃહીત્વા રાવણસ્ય સમીપં ઉપાનયન્||અહં દુરાત્મના રાવણેન દૃષ્ટ્વા સંભાષિતઃ ચ | લંકાગમનં રાક્ષસાનાં તં વધં પૃષ્ટશ્ચ||

' Realizing that I cannot be killed , knowing that his power is reduced , he quickly captured me with Brahma astra. Then Rakshasas there tied me up with ropes. Dragging me, they brought me near Ravana. After being seen I was spoken to by the evil minded Ravana. He asked me about my coming to Lanka and the killing of Rakshasas.

શ્લો|| તત્સર્વં ચ મયા તત્ર સીતાર્થમિતિ જલ્પિતમ્||131||
અસ્યાહં દર્શનાકાંક્ષી પ્રાપ્તઃ તદ્ભવનં વિભો|
મારુતસ્યૌરસઃ પુત્ત્રો વાનરો હનુમાનહમ્||132||
રામદૂતં ચ માં વિદ્ધિ સુગ્રીવ સચિવં કપિમ્|
સોઽહં દૂત્યેન રામસ્ય ત્વત્સકાશ મિહાગતઃ||133||

સ||તત્ સર્વં સીતાર્થં ઇતો મયા તત્ર જલ્પિતં વિભો| અસ્યાઃ દર્શનકાંક્ષી ત્વદ્ભવનં પ્રાપ્તઃ | અહં મારુતસ્ય ઔરસઃ પુત્ત્રઃ વાનરઃ હનુમાન્ ||કપિં માં રામદૂતં સુગ્રીવ સચિવં વિદ્ધિ| અહં રામસ્ય દૂત્યેન ત્વત્ સકાસં ઇહ આગતઃ||

' Oh King ! All that was burnt for Sita sake. Desiring to see her, I came to your mansion. I am a Vanara , son of wind god, by name Hanuman. Know me, a Vanara, as the messenger of Rama and the minister of Sugriva. I have come here with a message of Rama to be delivered to you'.

શ્લો|| સુગ્રીવશ્ચ મહાતેજાઃ સ ત્વાં કુશલમબ્રવીત્|
ધર્માર્થકામસહિતં હિતં પથ્ય મુવાચ ચ||134||
વસતો ઋષ્યમૂકે મે પર્વત વિપુલદ્રુમે|
રાઘવો રણવિક્રાન્તો મિત્રત્વં સમુપાગતઃ||135||

સ|| મહાતેજાઃ સુગ્રીવઃ ત્વાં કુશલં અબ્રવીત્ || ધર્માર્થ સહિતં હિતં પથ્યં ઉવાચ હ||વિપુલદ્રુમે ઋષ્યમૂકે વસતઃ મે રણવિક્રાન્તઃ રાઘવઃ મિત્રત્વં ઉપાગતઃ||

"The highly powerful Sugriva enquires about your welfare. He sent beneficial advice which is righteous too. Living on Rishyamuka with plenty of trees, I made a treaty of friendship with Raghava who is skilled in war'.

શ્લો|| તેન મે કથિતં રાજ્ઞા ભાર્યા મે રક્ષસા હૃતા|
તત્ર સાહાય્ય મસ્માકં કાર્યં સર્વાત્મના ત્વયા||136||
મયા ચ કથિતં તસ્મૈ વાલિનશ્ચ વધં પ્રતિ|
તત્ર સહાય્ય હેતોર્મે સમયં કર્તુમર્હસિ||137||
વાલિના હૃતરાજ્યેન સુગ્રીવેણ મહાપ્રભુઃ|
ચક્રેઽગ્નિ સાક્ષિકં સખ્યં રાઘવઃ સહલક્ષ્મણઃ||138||

સ|| રાજ્ઞા તેન મે કથિતં | મે ભાર્યા રક્ષસા હૃતા | તત્ર ત્વયા સર્વાત્મના અસ્માકં સાહાય્યં કાર્યં ||મયા ચ વાલિનઃ વધં પ્રતિ તસ્મૈ કથિતં| તત્ર સહાય્યહેતોઃ સમયં કર્તું અર્હસિ||મહાપ્રભુઃ સહ લક્ષ્મનઃ રાઘવઃ વાલિના હૃતરાજ્યેન સુગ્રીવેણ અગ્નિસાક્ષિકં સખ્યં ચક્રે||

" O King ! He told me 'My wife is abducted by Rakshasas. There you have to help us by all means'. I have also told him about killing of Vali. It is proper to make an agreement to help. With fire as witness , that great lord Raghava along with Lakshmana made an agreement with Sugriva whose kingdom was usurped by Vali'.

શ્લો|| તેન વાલિનમુત્પાટ્ય શરેણૈકેન સંયુગે|
વાનરાણાં મહારાજઃ કૃતઃ સ પ્લવતાં પ્રભુઃ||139||
તસ્યસાહય્યમસ્માભિઃ કાર્યં સર્વાત્મના ત્વિહ|
તેન પ્રસ્થાપિતઃ તુભ્યં સમીપ મિહ ધર્મતઃ||140||
ક્ષિપ્રમાનીયતાં સીતા દીયતાં રાઘવાય ચ|
યાવન્નહરયો વીરા વિધમન્તિ બલં તવ||141||
વાનરાણાં પ્રભાવો હિ ન કેન વિદિતઃ પુરા|
દેવતાનાં સકાશં ચ યે ગચ્ચન્તિ નિમન્ત્રિતાઃ||142||

સ|| તેન સંયુગે એકેન શરણે ઉત્પાટ્ય પ્લવતાં પ્રભુઃ સઃ વાનરાણામ્ મહારાજઃ કૃતઃ||ઇહ અસ્માભિઃ સર્વાત્મના તસ્ય સહાય્યં કાર્યં | તેન તુભ્યં સમીપં ધર્મતઃ પ્રસ્થાપિતઃ||વીરાઃ હરયઃ તવ બલં યાવત્ ન વિધમન્તિ (તાવત્) સીતા ક્ષિપ્રં રાઘવાય દીયતાં |યે નિમન્ત્રિતાઃ દેવતાનાં સંકાશં ગચ્છન્તિ પુરા વાનરાણામ્ પ્રભાવઃ કેન નવિદિતઃ||

Then in the battle Vali was killed with one arrow, and Sugriva was made the king of Vanaras. Then we too have to help him in this task. A message was sent to you by him on righteous grounds. Before the Vanara warriors destroy your army , Sita may be returned to Rama at once. Who does not know the strength of Vanaras whom even Devas ask for help'.

શ્લો|| ઇતિ વાનરરાજઃ ત્વામાહેત્યભિહિતો મયા|
મામૈક્ષત તતઃ ક્રુદ્ધઃ ચક્ષુસા પ્રદહન્નિવ||143||
તેન વધ્યોઽહમાજ્ઞપ્તો રક્ષસા રૌદ્રકર્મણા|
મત્પ્રભાવં અવિજ્ઞાય રાવણેન દુરાત્મના||144||

સ|| ઇતિ વાનરાજઃ ત્વાં આહ ઇતિ મયા અભિહિતઃ| તતઃ કૃદ્ધઃ ચક્ષુષા પ્રદહન્નિવ મામ્ એક્ષત||રૌદ્રકર્મણા રક્ષસા દુરાત્મના તેન રાવણેન મત્પ્રભાવં અવિજ્ઞાય અહં વધ્યઃઆજ્ઞાપતઃ||

I told him that "Thus the king of Vanaras spoke to you" . Then he looked at me with anger in his eyes like he was going to burn me. Then the evil minded Rakshasa Ravana, not knowing my powers, ordered that I be killed'.

શ્લો|| તતો વિભીષણો નામ તસ્ય ભ્રાતા મહામતિઃ|
તેન રાક્ષરાજોઽસૌ યાચિતો મમકારણાત્||145||
નૈવં રાક્ષસશાર્દૂલ ત્યજતા મેષ નિશ્ચયઃ|
રાજશાસ્ત્રવ્યપેતો હિ માર્ગઃ સંસેવ્યતે ત્વયા||146||
દૂતવધ્યા ન દૃષ્તા હિ રાજશાસ્ત્રેષુ રાક્ષસ|
દૂતેન વેદિતવ્યં ચ યથાર્થં હિતવાદિના||147||
સુમહત્યપરાધેઽપિ દૂતસ્યાતુલવિક્રમ|
વિરૂપકરણં દૃષ્ટં ન વધોઽસ્તીતિ શાસ્ત્રતઃ||148||

સ|| તતઃ તસ્ય ભ્રાતા મહામતિઃ વિભીષણઃ મમકારણાત્ તેન રાક્ષસરાજઃ યાચિતઃ||રાક્ષસ શાર્દૂલ એવં ન એષઃ નિશ્ચયઃ ત્યજતામ્ | રાજશાસ્ત્રવ્યપેતઃ માર્ગઃ ત્વયા સંસેવ્યતે હિ || રાક્ષસ રાજશાસ્ત્રેષુ દૂતવધ્યા અ દૃષ્ટા હિ | હિતવાદિના દૂતેન યધાર્થં વેદિતવ્યં||હે અતુલવિક્રમઃ સુમહતિ અપરાધઃ અપિ દૂતસ્ય વિરૂપકરણં દૃષ્ટં શાસ્ત્રતઃ વધઃ નાસ્તિ||

Then his highly intelligent brother Vibhishana begged the king on my behalf. "Tiger among Rakshasas, you must drop such decision. According to the science of diplomacy it is not permitted. Oh Rakshasa ! In diplomacy the killing of messenger is not seen indeed. A well-wishing messenger is to convey the truth. Oh Ravana of immeasurable courage! Even if a harm of any kind is done, the messenger may only be mutilated as per sastras. Killing is not done".

શ્લો|| વિભીષણેનૈવ મુક્તો રાવણઃ સંદિદેશ તાન્ |
રાક્ષસાનેત દેવાસ્ય લાંગૂલં દહ્યતામિતિ||149|

સ|| વિભીષણેન એવં ઉક્તઃ રાવણઃ અસ્ય એતત્ લાંગૂલં દહ્યતાં ઇતિ તાન્ રાક્ષસાન્ સન્દિદેશ||

Thus told by Vibhishana, Ravana ordered the Rakshasas that his tail may be set on fire.

શ્લો|| તતસ્તસ્ય વચશ્શ્રુત્વા મમ પુચ્ચં સમન્તતઃ|
વેષ્ટિતં શણવલ્કૈશ્ચ જીર્ણૈઃ કાર્પાસજૈઃ પટૈઃ||150||
રાક્ષસાઃ સિદ્ધસન્નાહાઃ તતસ્તે ચણ્ડવિક્રમાઃ|
તદાઽદહ્યન્ત મે પુચ્ચં નિઘ્નન્તઃ કાષ્ઠમુષ્ટિભિઃ||151||
બદ્ધસ્ય બહુભિઃ પાશૈર્યન્ત્રિતસ્ય ચ રાક્ષસૈઃ|
તતસ્તે રાક્ષસા શ્શૂરા બદ્ધં મામગ્નિસંવૃતમ્||152||
અઘોષયન્ રાજમાર્ગે નગરદ્વારમાગતાઃ|

સ|| તતઃ તસ્ય વચઃ શ્રુત્વા મમ પુચ્છં સમન્તતઃ શણવલ્કૈઃ જીર્ણૈઃ કાપસજૈઃ પટૈઃ વેષ્ટિતં|| તતઃ સિદ્ધસન્નાહાઃ ચણ્ડવિક્રમાઃ રાક્ષસાઃ કાષ્ઠમુષ્ટિભિઃ નિઘ્નન્તઃ બહુભિઃ પાશૈઃ બદ્દસ્ય રાક્ષસૈઃ યન્ત્રિતસ્ય મે પુચ્છં તદા અદહ્યત|| તતઃ શૂરાઃ રાક્ષસાઃ નગરદ્વારં આગતાઃ બદ્ધં અગ્નિસંવૃતં મામ્ રાજમાર્ગે અઘોષયન્

Then hearing those words of Ravana, all of them together wrapped my tail with saris made of fiber, and pieces of cotton. Then the ferocious Rakshasas who were all set, hit me with fire sticks and fists, while I was tied with ropes. Then they set my tail on fire. Then those Rakshasa warriors took me, who was bound and set on fire, along the royal streets to the gate of the city.

શ્લો|| તતોઽહં સુમહદ્રૂપં સંક્ષિપ્ય પુનરાત્મનઃ||153||
વિમોચયિત્વા તં બદ્ધં પ્રકૃતિસ્થઃ સ્થિતઃ પુનઃ|
આયસં પરિઘં ગૃહ્ય તાનિ રક્ષાંસ્યસૂદયમ્||154||
તતસ્તન્નગરદ્વારં વેગે નાપ્લુતવાનહમ્|
પુચ્છેન ચ પ્રદીપ્તેન તાં પુરીં સાટ્ટગોપુરામ્||155||
દહામ્યહમસંભ્રાન્તો યુગાન્તાગ્નિરિવ પ્રજાઃ|

સ|| તતઃ અહં આત્મનઃ સુમહત્ રૂપં પુનઃ સંક્ષિપ્ય તં બંધં વિમોચયિત્વા પુનઃ પ્રકૃતિસ્થઃ સ્થિતઃ આયસમ્ પરિઘં ગૃહ્ય તાનિ રક્ષાંસિ અસૂદયમ્||તતઃ અહં વેગેન તત્ નગરદ્વારં અસંભ્રાન્તઃ આપ્લુતવાન્ | અહં યુગાન્તાગ્નિઃ ઇવ પ્રજાઃ ઇવ સાટ્ટપ્રાકાર ગોપુરં તાં પુરીં પ્રદીપ્તેન પુચ્ચેન દહામિ||

Then I reduced my huge form to a small size and got rid of the bonds. Again coming back to my natural huge form, took the iron bar and killed all the Rakshasas. Then I quickly jumped on the city gate without being perplexed. Then like the fire at the time of the dissolution, I burnt the city along with all its boundary walls the towers.

શ્લો|| વિનષ્ટા જાનકી વ્યક્તં ન હ્યદગ્ધઃ પ્રદૃશ્યતે||156||
લંકાયાં કશ્ચિદુદ્દેશઃ સર્વા ભસ્મીકૃતા પુરી|
દહતા ચ મયા લંકાં દગ્ધા સીતા ન સંશયમ્||157||
રામસ્યહિ મહત્કાર્યં મયેદં વિતથીકૃતમ્|

સ|| વ્યક્તં જાનકી વિનષ્ટા લંકાયાં કશ્ચિત્ ઉદ્દેશઃ અદગ્ધઃ ન પ્રદૃશ્યતે | સર્વા પુરી ભસ્મીકૃતા||મયા લંકાં દહતા ચ| સીતા દગ્ધા સંશયં ન|| મયા ઇદં રામસ્ય મહત્ કાર્યં વિતધીકૃતં||

After doing so I thought Janaki too might have been killed since there was no place that was not burnt. The full city was burnt. I burnt Lanka. Sita too was burnt without doubt. The great mission of Rama has been spoilt by me.

શ્લો|| ઇતિ શોકસમાવિષ્ટઃ ચિન્તામહમુપાગતઃ||158||
અથાહં વાચ મશ્રૌષં ચારણાનાં શુભાક્ષરામ્|
જાનકી ન ચ દગ્ધેતિ વિસ્મયોદન્ત ભાષિણામ્||159||
તતો મે બુદ્ધિરુત્પન્ન શ્રુત્વા તામદ્ભુતાં ગિરમ્|
અદગ્ધા જાનકીત્યેવં નિમિત્તૈશ્ચોપલક્ષિતા||160||

સ|| ઇતિ શોકસમાવિષ્ટઃ અહં ચિન્તાં ઉપાગતઃ| અથ અહં જાનકી ન ચ દગ્ધા ઇતિ વિસ્મયોદન્તભાષનં ચારણાનાં શુભાક્ષરં વાચં અશ્રૌષં||અદ્ભુતાં તાં ગિરં શ્રુત્વા તતઃ જાનકી અદગ્ધા ઇત્યેવં મે બુદ્ધિઃ ઉત્પન્ના નિમિત્તૈશ્ચ ઉપલક્ષિતા||

Thus over taken by sorrow I started thinking. The wonderful utterance and auspicious words of Charanas saying "Janaki is not burnt", was heard by me. Hearing those wonderful words that Janaki was not burnt, it occurred to me by the signs that it was because of her.

શ્લો|| દીપ્યમાને તુ લાંગૂલે નમાં દહતિ પાવકઃ|
હૃદયં ચ પ્રહૃષ્ટં મે વાતાઃ સુરભિગન્દિનઃ||161||
તૈર્નિમિત્તૈશ્ચ દૃષ્ટાર્થૈઃ કારણૈશ્ચ મહાગુણૈઃ|
ઋષિવાક્યૈશ્ચ સિદ્દાર્થૈરભવં હૃષ્ટમાનસઃ||162||

સ|| લાંગૂલે દીપ્યમાને પાવકઃ મામ્ ન દહતિ| મે હૃદયં પ્રહૃષ્ટં વાતાઃ સુરભિગન્ધિનઃ||નિમિત્તૈઃ દૃષ્ટાર્થૈઃ મહાગુણૈઃ કારણૈશ્ચ ઋષિવાક્યૈશ્ચ સિદ્ધાર્થૈઃ તૈઃ હૃષ્ટમાનસઃ અભવં||

The tail though set on fire did not burn me. There was joy in my heart and wind carried fragrance. By such signs, great virtues and reasons, by the words of Rishis and Siddhas I felt happy at heart.

શ્લો|| પુનર્દૃષ્ટ્વા ચ વૈદેહીં વિસૃષ્ટશ્ચતયા પુનઃ|
તતઃ પર્વતમાસાદ્ય તત્રારિષ્ટમહં પુનઃ||163||
પ્રતિપ્લવનમારેભે યુષ્મદ્દર્શન કાંક્ષયા|

સ|| વૈદેહીં પુનઃ દૃષ્ટ્વા તયા વિસૃષ્ટશ્ચ તતઃ પુનઃ મહં અરિષ્ટં પર્વતં આસાદ્ય યુષ્મત્ દર્શન કાંક્ષયા પ્રતિપ્લવનં આરભે ||

Seeing Vaidehi again , seeking her permission, ascended the mount Arista again, desirous of meeting you all, started the leap.

શ્લો|| તતઃ પવનચન્દ્રાર્ક સિદ્ધગંધર્વ સેવિતમ્||164||
પન્થાનમહમાક્રમ્ય ભવતો દૃષ્ટવાનિહ|
રાઘવસ્ય પ્રભાવેન ભવતાં ચૈવ તેજસા||165||
સુગ્રીવસ્ય ચ કાર્યાર્થં મયા સર્વમનુષ્ઠિતમ્|

સ|| તતઃ અહં પવન ચન્દ્રાર્ક સિદ્ધ ગન્ધર્વસેવિતં પન્દાનં આશ્રિત્ય ઇહ ભવતઃ દ્રષ્ટુવાન્||રાઘવસ્ય પ્રભાવેણ ભવતાં તેજસા ચૈવ સુગ્રીવસ્ય કાર્યાર્થં ચ મયા સર્વં અનુષ્ટિતામ્||

Then I following the path followed by the Siddhas , Gandharvas I have come here to see you all. By the power of Rama, and your powers, for achieving Sugriva's purpose everything has been accomplished by me .

શ્લો|| એતત્સર્વં મયા તત્ર યથાવદુપપાદિતમ્||166||
અત્રયન્ન કૃતં શેષં તત્ સર્વં ક્રિયતામિતિ ||167||

સ|| એતત્ સર્વં તત્ર મયા યથાવત્ ઉપપાદિતં અત્ર| યત્ નકૃતં શેષં તત્ સર્વં ક્રિયતામ્||

All this has been told by me as it is. That which is not done, that which remains to be done is to be accomplished.

ઇત્યાર્ષે શ્રીમદ્રામાયણે આદિકાવ્યે વાલ્મીકીયે
ચતુર્વિંશત્ સહસ્રિકાયાં સંહિતાયામ્
શ્રીમત્સુન્દરકાંડે અષ્ટપંચાશસ્સર્ગઃ ||

Thus ends Sarga fifty eight of Sundarakanda in Ramayana the first poem composed in Sanskrit by the first poet sage Valmiki
